Ambassodors Meeting!

Malo e lelei fellow bloggers!

Today I have been given the opportunity to blog about this week’s Ako Hiko Ambassadors Meeting. In this meeting we discussed the previous Film Festival Event that occurred on Wednesday the 18th of October at the St Lukes Event Cinemas, the film festival contained 24 different films to be displayed on the big screen. In the meeting we conversed about ‘What went well?’ in the cinemas, ‘What didn’t’, and ‘What we could do next time’. Some of the things we agreed that went well was that we were able to get free Popcorn/Choc Top, and the general enjoyment of being able to have an opportunity to come to an event like that. What we could improve is the glitching of the cinema screens, no titles, longer pauses to know when the movie is transitioning to another. We thought the loud squealing of some spectators were something that wasn’t very enjoyable. Overall the Event was rather fun and unexpected. We also conversed about Students who we suggest would be potential Ambassadors for next year. That’s all!

Thank you for reading about Todays Ambassadors Meeting!

Talofa Lava blogging friends,

In the past few weeks, we have been planning, researching, and creating our Rube Goldberg machines. Today was the final day to add finishing touches, and decorations to our Machine, we also had to self-check to make sure we included almost/at least everything we could add to earn an A(Advanced) on our marks as a team, and individually. In my group was Malia, William, and of course me. We made a few tweaks and changes in our Machine multiple times, but eventually agreed on a design. We tested along the way and saw a few flaws here and there, so we improvised on some parts. In the end we agreed we’d take some inspiration from one of the other groups, we did a song that Diamond Langi was involved in. Here’s the link to the video of the whole Puriri Class and the Machines they made. Our Machine included a Lever, Pulley, Inclined plane, and we tried adding a wheel and axle as decoration, but the Marble didn’t have enough force in the final run to activate it. What I found challenging was almost everything, mostly having to bring in resources and working with what we had. I really enjoyed the whole thing overall though; it was funny to see the fails and the memories made during the process.

That’s all for today! My question for you is: Have you ever had to write or have anything to do with Rube Goldberg Machines?

Today we had a Kapa Haka group from Auckland Girls Grammar School come in and sing some waiatas as well as perform some Hakas too! My favourite part was when they did a specific Haka, I got chills watching it, and their Pukanas were so amazing and cool. Here are some photos from todays exprience!

Their supervisour talked about how the Mฤori language was stripped away from the native people and how this weeks Te Wiki O Te Reo Mฤori theme was to make the Language stronger. Overall this week has been really amazing and enjoyable! Throughout this whole week both students and school staff have been using Mฤori language more often and have learnt some phrases and new words in Te Reo.

I have a Pฤtai for you! Did you enjoy your Te Wiki O Te Reo Mฤori?

Let me know and have a Great Te Wiki O Te Reo Mฤori!

Hei Kona for now.

This week we had Tongan Language week, I missed out on most of it because I’ve been in Australia for a bit. I came back on Thursday to school and found out Diamond Langi was going to be guest speaker for Assembly, I forgot to mention that we had 2 assemblies, one on Thursday and another one on Friday. Luckily, I came prepared with my White Tongan Dress, and a coconut shell kiekie. We also had dress rehearsals for both the Girls and Boys Tongan groups to see if we need to work on any parts or if the performance songs will be cut to a certain length. I was a part of the Girls Tongan Group, we did a Tau’olunga (Tongan Dance) to the song ”‘Upฤ“ ‘Oย Siu’ilikutapu”, the assembly rolled as usual, the Girls Tongan Group performed first, and then the Boys. Diamond Langi spoke about how she understood Tongan when she was younger but didn’t know how to speak Tongan, and she talked about how it is important to learn your mother tongue and to keep trying even if you get mocked. Here are the links to 2 short videos from Thursday:

There’s lots of cheering because you know us Polynesians in general like to show some support in our voices!

Moving onto Friday, we had John Paul (JP) Foliaki come in with a Camera Crew, and some of us weren’t really prepared. This time I wore a red shirt that said “‘Ofa ‘Atu” in gold, a black long skirt that looked like a tupenu, and a ta’ovala with red-black feathers. We had an early assembly, an unexpected assembly. It was like Thursday but a bit longer and rushed because JP had other schools to go to, luckily, we were the first he visited. He went from class to class. starting with Puriri, which is my class. We were all so excited and had multiple students in class go up to him and ask him for photos, and signatures. I got both my crocs signed! Anyways here are some photos from Friday:

I really enjoyed this year’s Tongan language Week!

Did you?

Today we had some visitors from MOTAT come into our school to show us some simple machines we got to create and use to make a Rube Goldberg Machine. The Rube Goldberg Machine we made was used for a Marble Run. We were given a little talk and then we got into groups of 3, in my group was Aya, Malia, and I. Sorry I forgot to mention that this was only half of Puriri because the other half was at Specialist. The Machine my group and I made was the Elevator, the Elevator was activated with two cups and the work of a Pulley. One cup to go down, and the other lifts up which allows the second marble to be realeased and roll freely to the finish line. I learnt from this challange that the Pulley can still work from a far distance too because of the length of the string used. What I found challenging was trying to create the Trapped Door Elevator because of how we were rushed by Time. Overall I really enjoyed the whole thing and found it really fun, I recommend it for those who would like to have a chance at using simple Machines and create something new or similiar to a Rube Goldberg Machine!

Here are some photos from Today:

Have you ever made a Rube Goldberg Machine?

Dirty Work Drama!

Malo e lelei Bloggers!

We were given the oppertunity by Justin (Guy who teaches Kapa Haka online) to watch a drama show he was in. On Wednesday the 28th of June the whole school got to see a Drama show called ‘Drity Work at the Q Theatre. We met in the hall after ourย  20 minute break at 9:50 and we had to line up in our classes, we talked about the expectations for our time at the Q Theatre. We got split into our buses and left to the city, we got out of our buses and walked the rest of the way. We sat in the lounge of the Q Theatre, there was these cool looking stringy curtains that covered bits and pieces of the chairs, couch, and tables, I found it pretty loud as we mixed with the other classes again because mostly everyone was talking and shadowboxing. Turns out there were 2 other schools coming to watch the drama as well! The 2 schools had to say at the bottom of the seats while our school got to sit in the ‘God Seats’ and “”. My Favourite part was when one of the main characters named Joy said “Zara! Just shut up!” and everyone went ‘Oohhhh’, actually there was many parts that made the Theatre go ‘Ooohhh’ and one of those parts that had the Theatre silent, shocked, and smiling in amusement was when another main character Neil said to Zara (The third Main character) “I’m so happy I could Kiss you!” and heads turned to some people. Anyways here are some photos!

Today our Cybersmart lesson was about ‘Being in the Right Place at the Righ Time’ and we got to add this information on scratch. When I type that I mean we got to use scratch, firstly we had to screenshot 5 sites we had to be on for our learning. Then we had to explain what it was and why we use that site. I found the coding easy when I started, but then I found dome difficulties with the text lining up with the background.

Heres my work:

Last week we got to make a Pick-a-Path that ask questions that relate to the Kawa of Care. We were allowed to work with someone, so I decided to buddy up with Hola your, we both agreed on working together and make our Pick-a-Path similar to Kahoot. We tried really hard and had some difficulties with linking the answers to the slides. What I found challenging was getting the slides to link to the wording properly. What I really enjoyed was creating this Pick-A-Path overall. Here it is for you to try it out!

How did you go? Comment and let me know!

Long Division

Malo e lelei!

This week in Math we have been learning about long division. First Mrs Mundy showed us an example and worked it out with the class then she gave us what book and page we had to solve the long division problems on. After some time she let us create a DLO and wer had to teach/remind her how to solve a equation using long division. Our DLO started with us explaining how to solve it just like how we explained to Mrs Mundy. Then we labled what was what, and we ofcourse createed an example to show others what we are talking about.ย  Here is my Google Drawing about Long Division:

I found this hard at first because I didn’t get but when it was explained more i began to get the hang of it!
